Maria Kontaki was born in Athens and studied at the Department of Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art, of the School of Graphic Arts and Artistic Studies, majoring in Group A – Conservation of Excavated Materials and Architecture School at NTUA.

Since 2000 she has been working at the National Archaeological Museum as a conservator initially in the conservation laboratory of Egyptian Antiquities and from 2003 in the metals conservation laboratory specializing in the antiquities of the Prehistoric Collection of HNAM.

Her scientific interests focus on the study of the manufacturing technology of metal and organic antiquities of the Late Bronze Age, as well as the use of design and photogrammetric programs for the modeling of antiquities and mounting supports. She has participated in the European conservation program of the Sacro Monte in Ossuccio, Como-Italy, in conservation programs of excavation finds in Ancient Messina and Ancient Eliki and in research projects. She has participated in conferences and has contributed to publications. She speaks English and Italian.
