A new exhibition with archival photographs from the history of the Museum is presented at the Café of the Hellenic National Archaeological Museum. The main building of the National Archaeological Museum was founded on October 3, 1866, to designs by architects E. Ziller and L. Lange. Since then and until today, the Museum has developed, enriched and carried out numerous exhibition and research programs. The Photographic Archive of the National Archaeological Museum was created in 1923 and is one of the oldest and richest archives of the Archaeological Service. It houses archival material, including the black-and-white prints and negatives presented in the exhibition, digitized and in new prints, with snapshots of the Museum’s life and work before the Second World War.

The exhibition was organized by the Museum’s Department of Scientific Archives Management.
