Cyprus passes under Roman domination in 30 B.C. Emperor Trajan and Hadrian embellish cities, such as Salamis, with new public buildings, while the sanctuary of Aphrodite in Paphos rises to fame. The Greek alphabet has by now completely replaced the Cypriot one, which is encountered for the last time at the end of the 3^rd cent. B.C.

Dated to the period of the Roman empire are four male and female busts and the pair of limestone feet, which probably were parts of human effigies. Their blackened by fire surface indicates that these effigies were burnt, during the funeral procession for the dead or in the commemorative rituals, thrown in the purifying fire that was lit in honour of the dead.
