The Hellenic National Archaeological Museum bids farewell to Georgios Stylianou Korres
The Hellenic National Archaeological Museum respectfully bids farewell to the emeritus professor of Prehistoric Archaeology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Georgios Stylianou Korres.
Professor Georgios Stylianou Korres was an internationally renowned researcher on the life and work of H. Schliemann, whereas he conducted excavations at many sites in Messenia (SW Peloponnese). Because of these interests, he frequently visited the National Archaeological Museum and until recently studied material exhibited or stored at the Museum. The result of his collaboration with our Museum and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Messenia, among others, was the publication in the scientific catalog of the exhibition Mykene, Die Sagenhafte Welt des Agamemnon (2018), of two articles on the tholos tombs at Routsi in Messinia and the unique Mycenaean “crown” originating from this location.
We express our sincere condolences to his family.
