Frederick Williams, The Temple of Aphaia on Aegina, 1829, watercolour

Williams was most likely a British artist, one of the numerous travellers who visited rebellious Greece. He opted to render his subject from a low viewing point and, as a result, the temple, even though it occupies the background, crowns monumentally the hill, while in the foreground the scene is enlivened by suggestive human figures.
