Marble colossal head of Athena in the Velletri type. From Athens. 1st c. BC.

The sculpture was found in 1874 during excavation work in the residence of the German Philhellene Heinrich Treibert, who participated in the Greek War of Independence and served as King Otto’s personal physician. The sculpture was delivered by Treibert in 1876 to the Collection of the Archaeological Society housed in the Varvakeion School, which was gradually transferred from 1878 to 1893 to the National Archaeological Museum. (ΝΑΜ Γ 234)
